This was the first in a series of conversations hosted by Jordan Center Distinguished Journalist in Residence Dr. Yevgenia Albats. Throughout the year, Dr. Albats will be joined by leading experts – journalists, researchers, foreign service officers, and more – in one-on-one, public conversations regarding the most pressing issues in our understanding of Russia today. Be sure to check our website for more information on upcoming events, which will generally take place on Thursdays at 4 pm ET. This event was co-hosted by the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at NYU.
Maria Pevchikh is the head of the investigation department at the Anti-Corruption Foundation, a Russian non-profit organisation founded by opposition politician Alexei Navalny to investigate and expose the cases of corruption among the Russian elites. During her eleven years of work, she authored over a hundred investigations, most famously of Vladimir Putin’s private palace on the Black Sea which has gained over 120 million views on YouTube. The investigations of the Anti-Corruption Foundation have led to freezing of assets of Russian officials and oligarchs in excess of 1 billion euros, including the seizure of Vladimir Putin’s private yacht in Italy. Pevchikh is also the editor-in-chief and a presenter of Popular Politics Youtube channel, an independent Russian-language news channel with a monthly audience of over 10 million viewers, and the executive producer of the award-winning CNN/HBO documentary Navalny.
